Description

I love :iconarrancar4ik:'s work SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! She's got her own unique, instantly-recognizable style; she gives our beloved transforming-robot-people an abundance of personality and individuality... and her noses are Perfection. Nick Roche better watch the throne, and I do not say that lightly!!!!!
I am SO LUCKY to be allowed to color her work. And I was super-excited to work on this pic.
I love the layout, feel, and composition. And I'm a slave to screentones! So I was all but salivating over this.

Things I Tried:
1.) I wanted this to have a graphic feel, like an old Hollywood poster with sharp contrast and heightened, simplified colors. I wanted to see if I could color Prowl -- a black and white bot -- using totally non-B&W intense hues. I think I kinda achieved my goal there. But there's no good value-contrast here; it's pretty muddy. So I have more to learn in the light/shadow dept.
2.) I brought out the white gel-pen when things looked iffy. I think it turned out ok, but I still worry it's a crutch. It certainly helps bring things out from the background, though!
3.) I love that flat orange sky so much!
4.) Yes, I know orange/cyan has become a color cliche. Perhaps I should try something else, like maybe red and green -- but then his chevron wouldn't stand out like it can in this color-scheme. Again, still learning!
5.) Do you see that little attempt at a lens-flare? Um, I tried. I think it's in white colored-pencil, actually. The picture just seemed to call for a lens-flare. But drawing one on is tricky, and you can't ever quite erase colored-pencil if you mess it up.....

In any case, I had an absolute BLAST working on this, and hope I can color for her more in the future!!!

[Squee! There's so much good art in the world today! It's a great time to be alive! HUZZAH to all you artists out there, toiling away, making the world a better, brighter place!]
